Kitana is a multidisciplinary artist focusing on analog collage since 2013 and celebrating pleasure in all its forms, from color to climax. The playfully subversive and technically detailed work flirts with ideas of power, “the gaze”, and the subject/object relationships of Desire using vintage adult magazines as primary material. Starting with early drawings of explicit cartoons, her expression of creativity and sexuality have always been tightly bound. Infusions of humor or serenity into sexually explicit images reconstruct “the gaze” from which they originated, confronting static commodification with dynamic emotion towards a representation of Truth. Elements of flora and fauna evoke the natural setting of a parallel system of living where the nude form and sexual acts are freely accepted as among the many experiences of Beauty encountered in the world. By recontextualizing pornographic material through erotic surrealism and absurdist fantasies, Kitana challenges viewers to transcend socialized reflexes to nudity and deconstruct their expectations about sexuality and its forms.
